Tankless Water Heater Uses Microwaves: Vulcanus Mark 4

Vulcanus Mark 4A Canadian company, Pulsar Advanced Technologies, claims to have produced a water heater that uses microwave technology to heat water instantaneously. The company says: “The Vulcanus MK4 can heat water from 35 degrees Fahrenheit to 140 degrees Fahrenheit in seconds and can source multiple applications at once: showers, dishwasher, sink usages and more. The Vulcanus MK4 is the size of a stereo speaker with a sleek modern look, making it ideal for condos and apartments, while powerful enough to serve the needs of any size family.” Groovy Green has been tracking the progress of this product, and the latest update can be found here. Apparently the heater isn’t quite to market yet, the manufacturers are looking to be certified in the U.S. and Canada.

  1. Wanderport Corporation has purchased the patent and worldwide distribution rights of the Pulsar microwave tankless water heater. This company will be bringing this product to market before 2010 year end. They are moving very fast with their business plan and will be radically changing the water heater market worldwide.

  3. Is this really an efficient system? I heard that the electrical efficiency for a microwave is 60%. That is only 60% of electrical energy gets turned into microwaves. Can this system be any more efficient if it uses the same technology?

The most efficient heating technology I heard of is magnetic induction. It is sometimes used to heat pans in cooking but is not very popular. I heard that the theoretical efficiency rate is something like 90%. The only concern are the magnetic waves produced; some people are concerned about them although they are considered safe.
